Galaxy Buds 2 update improves wireless charging

Samsung has released a new update for the Galaxy Buds 2. It’s a relatively small update with some charging-related improvements in tow. The TWS (true wireless) earbuds don’t seem to be getting any new features or other user-facing changes.

As of this writing, the Galaxy Buds 2 is picking up the new update in Samsung’s home country South Korea. The new firmware version for the earphones is R177XXU0AWA3. The package weighs just over 3MB (via), with the official changelog mentioning nothing apart from charging stability improvements. Samsung seems to have improved its charging algorithm for a more efficient refueling of the battery. We aren’t expecting drastic changes to the charging time, but there may be some internal improvements. As usual, the company should expand the availability of the latest update for these buds to more countries in the coming days.

If you’re using this TWS pair, you should be able to check for updates from the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone. Select your Galaxy Buds 2 from the left hamburger menu on the app’s home screen and click on Earbud Settings. Now go to the Earbuds software update menu and tap on Download and install. Your phone will then search for available updates for the earbuds. If an update is available, you’ll be prompted to download it. If you don’t see any updates, wait a few days and check again. The Galaxy Wearable app should notify you once the OTA (over-the-air) update is available.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Buds 2 in August 2021, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 foldables. It came less than a year after the Galaxy Buds Pro, which debuted alongside the Galaxy S21 series in January of that year. The company didn’t throw in a new TWS pair with the Galaxy S22 series early last year, but the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 in August brought the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro alongside them.

Last week’s Galaxy S23 once again came without a new TWS pair for a companion. That strongly suggests that Samsung will launch one with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 later this year. They will likely be called the Galaxy Buds 3. The Galaxy Watch 6 series should also be part of the new Galaxy family that the Korean firm will unveil in August.
